Abstract
Anaerobtc mfectlons are common and some of them are serious and have a high mortality rate. We evaluated the recent trend of anaeroblc bacteria isolation and the susceptibility of Bacterodes fragl2rs group organisms from Wonju Christian Hospital patients durmg March 1990 and February 1991. Durmg thts period, 902 anaerobes were Isolated. The most frequently isolated anaerobic bacterta were gram ~ negative bacllh (59.2 % ), and B. fragzlls group orgamsms were isolated about one- third of all anaerobes. The frequent sources of rsolation were specimens from the abdomen, head and neck. All the strams tested were susceptrble to tmlpenem, chloramphemcol and metromdazole. The resistance rate to cefoxltm was 5.3%. Beta-lactamase production was detected m 97.3% of B. frag~lzs group organisms.
